Hoe verstrengelt jouw toekomstvisie zich met technologie, natuur, en machines?
Noorderlicht nodigt studenten, van fotografie- en lens-based mediaopleidingen wereldwijd, uit om met één beeld te reageren op hun Student Open Call:
“Met deze Open Call vragen wij je om jouw visie te delen op het thema van de Noorderlicht Biënnale in 2025: Machine Entanglements. Alle inzendingen worden tentoongesteld.
Machine Entanglements
In 2025 richt de Noorderlicht Biënnale zich op de verstrengelde relatie tussen technologie, ecologie en erfgoed. De razendsnelle technologische vooruitgang heeft diepgaande impact op biodiversiteit, sociale structuren en ons gedeelde verleden. Met Machine Entanglements wil Noorderlicht bewustwording creëren én het gesprek openen: hoe vormt technologie ons leven, ons landschap en ons collectief geheugen?
We zijn benieuwd naar jullie blik op de wereld van morgen, en nodigen je uit om je werk in te sturen voor de Student Open Call! Bij een inzending kan je denken aan fotografie, video stills, 3D-renders, of andere lens-based-technieken.
Voor wie?
Iedere student van een fotografie en-lensbased mediaopleiding mag meedoen. Er is geen selectie en geen competitie. Het werk van alle deelnemers wordt gepresenteerd in een alfabetisch overzicht tijdens de Noorderlicht Biënnale 2025 op één van onze locaties in Friesland.”

“With one image, we ask you to share your vision on the theme of the Noorderlicht Biennial in 2025: Machine Entanglements. All submissions will be exhibited.
How do you envision a future intertwined with technology, nature, and machines?
Machine Entanglements
In 2025, the Noorderlicht Biennial focuses on the intertwined relationship between technology, ecology, and heritage. Quickly developing technological advances have profound impacts on biodiversity, social structures, and our shared past. With Machine Entanglements, Noorderlicht wants to create awareness and start a dialogue: how does technology shape our lives, our landscape and our collective memory?
We are curious about your view of tomorrow’s world, and invite you to submit your work for the Student Open Call! A submission could include photography, video stills, 3D renders, or other lens-based techniques.
Who are you?
Any student from a photography and lens-based media program may enter. There is no selection and, no competition. The work of all participants will be exhibited in an alphabetical overview during the Noorderlicht Biennial 2025 at one of our locations in Friesland.”
