Onder de titel FULL BLOWN toont Ton Mars in CAMPIS voor het eerst een deel van het omvangrijke project Gifts Of The Boundless Heart. Dit project, dat uit tekeningen en schilderijen bestaat, gaat uit van de vier elementen water, vuur, aarde en lucht. Empedocles – de Griekse dichter, filosoof, politicus, arts, natuurkundige en uitvinder – beweerde in de 5de eeuw v. Chr. dat alle materie uit deze elementen is opgebouwd. In de getallensymboliek geldt het getal vier als het ‘materiële ordeningsgetal’ dat de eerste ordeningen van de zichtbare wereld weerspiegelt en de basis vormt van Gifts Of The Boundless Heart.
De schilderijen met de hoofdtitels Winds, Flames, Waves en Grounds tonen de relaties tussen de vier elementen door middel van kleuren en composities. Ze verbinden zich met aspecten van het menselijk bestaan: geboorte en dood; oorsprong en bestemming; verandering en voortgang; leegte en helderheid.
De publicatie die bij deze tentoonstelling verschijnt, bevat naast foto’s van de tentoongestelde werken, een tekst van Katalin Herzog over het werk van de kunstenaar en een fragment uit een gesprek tussen drie fictieve ‘heren’ die het werk van de kunstenaar al heel lang begeleiden.

Ton Mars (Dalfsen, 1950) woont en werkt in Groningen, maakt abstracte schilderijen, tekeningen, installaties en schrijft poëtische teksten. Hij studeerde beeldende kunst aan Academie Minerva in Groningen en filosofie aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen en de Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen. Hij exposeerde in binnen- en buitenland en zijn werk is opgenomen in particuliere en museale collecties.
Under the title FULL BLOWN, Ton Mars is showing part of the extensive project Gifts Of The Boundless Heart for the first time in CAMPIS. This project, which consists of drawings and paintings, is based on the four elements water, fire, earth and air. Empedocles – the Greek poet, philosopher, politician, physician, physicist and inventor – claimed in the 5th century BC that all matter is made up of these elements. In numerical symbolism, the number four is considered the ‘material ordering number’ that reflects the first orders of the visible world and forms the basis of Gifts Of The Boundless Heart.
The paintings with the main titles Winds, Flames, Waves and Grounds show the relationships between the four elements by means of colours and compositions. They connect with aspects of human existence: birth and death; origin and destination; change and progress; emptiness and clarity.
The publication accompanying this exhibition contains, in addition to photographs of the exhibited works, a text by Katalin Herzog about the artist’s work and a fragment from a conversation between three fictional ‘gentlemen’ who have been accompanying the artist’s work for a long time.

Ton Mars (Dalfsen, 1950) lives and works in Groningen, makes abstract paintings, drawings, installations and writes poetic texts. He studied visual arts at the Minerva Academy in Groningen and philosophy at the University of Groningen and Radboud University Nijmegen. He has exhibited at home and abroad and his work is included in private and museum collections.
